Young Authors

Below you’ll find pathways to publication and contests to enter for young writers. I’m gathering some great online resources and will soon be adding a few tricks of the trade that I find helpful.

Young Writers USA has a contest deadline for the end of summer. There’s a poetry contest for 7-11 year olds and a spine-chilling story contest for middle and high school students.

New Pages has a pretty comprehensive list of monthly competitions and publication possibilities for young writers. This is a good resources to spend some time sifting through.

Stone Soup is a literary magazine completely written by young writers for children. It is for young artists too!

As an Illinois native, writer, and educator I’m pleased to share that Illinois State Board of Education hosts a young author’s competition annually. Covid cancelled it in 2021, but I have complete hope it will resume for the 2021-2022 school year. It culminates with a one-day event for the winners where they meet and learn from published authors.

MORE GOODIES TO COME!
